Blues Sign Winchester and Weaver to Contract Extensions
The St. Louis Blues announced on Monday that they have signed left wing Brad Winchester and defenseman Mike Weaver to one-year contract extensions. Both contracts are worth $800,000 a piece. Both players would have become unrestricted free agents on July 1. In 64 games last season with the Blues, Winchester scored 13 goals and eight assists for 21 points and 89 penalty minutes. Weaver appeared in 58 games last season with the Blues, scoring seven assists. Good signings for the Blues. Winchester is a very strong and physical checking line forward who had a break-out year with the Blues in 2008-09 and will look to improve upon that next season. His five power play goals and three power play assists make him a great addition to the team’s power play as well. Weaver is a very gritty depth defenseman who gives the Blues plenty of experience on the blueline. However, don’t expect him to put up big numbers or play a lot of minutes next season as he is just a depth defenseman.
