Lightning Re-Sign Defenseman Krajicek to One-Year Contract

The Tampa Bay Lightning continued to be busy on Wednesday by signing defenseman Lukas Krajicek to a one-year contract extension. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. The Lightning acquired Krajicek prior to the start of the 2008-09 season in a trade with the Vancouver Canucks. In 71 games last season with the Lightning, he scored two goals and 17 assists for 19 points. Not a bad signing for the Lightning, as they need all the help they can get on their blueline right now. Krajicek will provide the team with plenty of toughness and defensive depth next season. Also, when Krajicek’s new contract expires next summer, he will qualify for unrestricted free agency, so the Lightning will likely take this season to further evaluate the 26-year-old defenseman and decide if he fits into their long-term plans.
