Oilers Re-Sign Defenseman Strudwick for One Year
The Edmonton Oilers retained some blueline depth on Wednesday evening by re-signing defenseman Jason Strudwick to a one-year contract worth $700,000. In 71 games last season with the Oilers, Strudwick scored two goals and seven assists for nine points and 60 penalty minutes. The nine points was a career high for Strudwick. In 559 games over 12 NHL seasons with the Oilers, New York Islanders, Vancouver Canucks, Chicago Blackhawks, and New York Rangers, he has 13 goals and 34 assists for 47 points and 738 penalty minutes. Not a bad depth signing for the Oilers, as Strudwick had an excellent season with them in 2008-09. He brings the team lots of toughness and plenty of defensive depth as a stay-at-home defenseman.
