Lightning Sign Goaltender Ellis, Re-Sign Forward Fritz
The Tampa Bay Lightning added some depth in goal on Thursday by signing goalie Dan Ellis to a two-year contract worth $3 million. The deal averages out to $1.5 million per season. The team also announced that they have re-signed left wing Mitch Fritz to a one-year, two-way contract. Financial terms of his deal were not disclosed. Not a bad goaltending signing for the Lightning, as Ellis had some decent years in Nashville and helped keep the team in the playoff race each year he was there. He should be a decent fit for the Lightning over the next couple seasons. The Fritz signing is really just a depth one, as he doesn't have much offensive upside. He does, however, play with lots of grit and toughness, so if he does make the team next season, it will likely be on the fourth line.
