The Ottawa Senators have announced that they have re-signed defenseman Derek Smith to a one-year, two-way contract. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Smith appeared in two games with the Senators last season, scoring no points. He also played in 74 games with Binghamton of the AHL, scoring 14 goals and 37 assists for 51 points. Not a bad depth signing for the Senators, as Smith brings plenty of offensive skill to the blueline. However, he will likely spend most of next season with Binghamton.
