Thrashers Re-Sign Goaltender Pavelec to Two-Year Contract

The Atlanta Thrashers have announced that they have re-signed goaltender Ondrej Pavelec to a two-year contract worth $2.3 million. The deal averages out to $1.15 million per season. In 42 games last season with the Thrashers, he posted a 14-18-7 record, two shutouts, a 3.29 GAA, and a .906 save percentage. Not a bad signing for Atlanta, as Pavelec has the potential to become a decent starting goalie. He has good size and works hard on the ice, although he does have some consistency issues. He and Chris Mason will likely split time in net next season, giving the team two capable goaltenders. Plus, at $1.15 million per season, Pavelec will be very affordable, especially if he has a break out year in 2010-11.
