Sharks Sign Joe Thornton to Three-Year Extension

The San Jose Sharks have announced that they have signed center Joe Thornton to a three-year contract extension worth $21 million. The deal averages out to $7 million per season when it kicks in next season. He would have been an unrestricted free agent next summer. In three games so far this season, he has two goals and one assist. In 918 career NHL games with the Boston Bruins and San Jose Sharks, he has 287 goals and 647 assists for 934 points. This is a great signing for the Sharks, as Thornton brings a lot of offensive skill to the team. He's an excellent playmaker and passer, has great vision on the ice, and brings lots of size and strength to the team. Look for Thornton to continue to be one of the Sharks' top forwards over the next several seasons.
