NY Islanders Sign Kyle Okposo to Five-Year Extension
The New York Islanders announced on Wednesday that they have signed right wing Kyle Okposo to a five-year contract extension worth $14 million. The deal will pay him $1 million in 2011-12, $2 million in 2012-13, $3 million in 2013-14, $3.5 million in 2014-15, and $4.5 million in 2015-16. He would have been a restricted free agent on July 1. In 38 games this past season, he had five goals and 15 assists for 20 points. He missed 44 games this past season with a shoulder injury. This is a great signing for the Islanders, as Okposo has become a critical part of the team's rebuild. He has good size, lots of scoring ability, a good work ethic, and plays with some toughness. He will definitely become one of the Islanders' top forwards throughout the course of the contract. Not to mention the salary the team will pay him is a bargain for a player of his caliber.
