Lightning Sign Eric Brewer to Four-Year Extension

The Tampa Bay Lightning announced today that they have signed defenseman Eric Brewer to a four-year contract extension worth $16 million. The deal will pay him $4 million per season. He would have been an unrestricted free agent on July 1. Brewer was acquired by the Lightning on February 18 from the St. Louis Blues in exchange for prospect Brock Beukeboom and a third round pick in the 2011 Entry Draft. In 76 games last season with the Blues and Lightning, he had nine goals and seven assists for 16 points and 81 penalty minutes. Not a bad signing for the Lightning, as Brewer brings lots of size, stability, toughness, and leadership qualities to the team.
