Blue Jackets Sign Radek Martinek to One-Year Contract
The Columbus Blue Jackets have announced that they have signed defenseman Radek Martinek to a one-year contract worth $2.2 million. In 64 games last season with the New York Islanders, he had three goals and 13 assists for 16 points. Not a bad signing for the Islanders, as Martinek will bring plenty of veteran depth to the team's defense. He's a capable defensive defenseman who can play a shutdown role and is adept at moving the puck out of the defensive zone. Look for him to play alongside Marc Methot next season on the team's second defensive pairing.
