Coyotes Sign Forward Meyer to One-Year Contract
The Phoenix Coyotes announced on Thursday that they have signed newly acquired left win Stefan Meyer to a one-year contract. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. The Coyotes acquired Meyer from the Florida Panthers on June 19 in exchange for Steven Reinprecht. Meyer did not play in the NHL last season and last played in the NHL during the 2007-08 season with the Panthers, appearing in four games and scoring no points. In 65 games last season with the Panthers’ AHL affiliate in Rochester, he scored 18 goals and 22 assists for 40 points and 57 penalty minutes. This is an affordable depth signing for the Coyotes, who are not likely to spend a lot on payroll for next season given the financial state of the team. Meyer has the potential to at least become a top-nine forward in the league, so this signing could be a decent one for the team down the road.
