Hurricanes Add Corvo, Re-Sign Blanchard, Borer

The Carolina Hurricanes brought back a familiar face today by signing defenseman Joe Corvo to a two-year contract worth $4.5 million. The deal averages out to $2.25 million per season. The Hurricanes originally traded Corvo to the Washington Capitals on March 3 for defenseman Brian Pothier, forward Oskar Osala, and a second round pick in the 2010 Entry Draft. The team also announced today that they have re-signed left wing Nicholas Blanchard to a two-year, two-way contract and defenseman Casey Borer to a one-year, two-way contract. Financial terms of their deals were not disclosed. The Corvo signing is a good one for the Hurricanes, as he brings lots of offensive skill to the blueline and power play. The Blanchard and Borer signings are really just depth moves for the club, as both players will likely spend most of next season in the minors.
