Wild Sign Mikko Koivu to Seven-Year Extension
The Minnesota Wild have announced that they have signed center and team captain Mikko Koivu to a seven-year contract extension worth $47.25 million. The deal averages out to $6.75 per season. He would have been an unrestricted free agent next summer. In 80 games last season with the Wild, Koivu had 22 goals and 49 assists for 71 points. In 362 career NHL games, all with the Wild, he has 79 goals and 176 assists for 255 points. I'm a few days late posting this, but it is a great signing for Minnesota. Koivu is an excellent two-way forward who excels on the the power play. There's no doubt that he is the Wild's franchise player and will continue to be one of their top forwards for years to come.
