Wild Sign Jose Theodore to One-Year Contract
The Minnesota Wild have announced that they have signed goaltender Jose Theodore to a one-year contract. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. The signing comes just days after the team announced that backup goaltender Josh Harding will miss the entire 2010-11 season with right ACL and MCL injuries. In 47 games last season with the Washington Capitals, Theodore posted a 30-7-7 record, one shutout, a 2.81 GAA, and a .911 save percentage. He won the Hart Trophy as the league MVP and the Vezina Trophy as the league's top goaltender in 2002 and the Bill Masterton Trophy for perseverance and dedication to hockey in 2010. This is a good signing for the Wild, as Theodore will bring lots of depth and experience in goal with the absence of Harding. He has sound positioning and is very agile and will likely split the goaltending duties with Niklas Backstrom for the 2010-11 season.
