Panthers Sign Tim Kennedy to One-Year Extension

The Florida Panthers announced today that they have signed left wing Tim Kennedy to a one-year, two-way contract. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. He would have been a restricted free agent on July 1. He was acquired by the Panthers on February 26 from the New York Rangers along with a third round pick in the 2011 Entry Draft in exchange for defenseman Bryan McCabe. In six games last season with Florida, Kennedy had one assist. He also appeared in 67 games with Connecticut and Rochester of the AHL, scoring 12 goals and 37 assists for 49 points. This is really just a depth move for the Panthers, as Kennedy likely won't be much of a difference maker offensively for the team. He does play with some energy and has some playmaking skills, so he may make the team's opening roster next season on the third or fourth line.
