Ny Islanders Re-Sign Blake Comeau and Jon Sim

The New York Islanders have announced that they have avoided arbitration with left wing Blake Comeau and re-signed him to a one-year contract worth $2.5 million. The Islanders also announced that they have signed left wing Jon Sim to a one-year contract. The financial terms of his deal were not disclosed. In 77 games last season, Comeau had 24 goals and 22 assists for 46 points, while Sim had one goal and three assists for four points in 34 games. He also appeared in eight games with Bridgeport of the AHL, scoring seven goals and two assists for nine points. Sim left the team this past January to play with HC Fribourg-Gotteron of the Swiss League, where he had one goal in seven games. Comeau is a good signing for the Islanders, as he brings plenty of offensive and goal-scoring depth to the team despite being inconsistent in his scoring from time to time. As for Sim, he's always been held in high regard by the Islanders, so his return isn't a complete surprise despite him leaving the team in mid-season. He will bring plenty of veteran depth to the checking lines.

Jon Sim Leaves NY Islanders to Play in Europe

Jon Sim's days as a New York Islander are over. The 33-year-old forward has signed with HC Fribourg-Gotteron of the Swiss National League after clearing waivers. Last week, he was assigned to the Islanders' AHL affiliate in Bridgeport, but failed to report to the team. He was then suspended by the Islanders and placed on unconditional waivers. After he went unclaimed on waivers, his contract was terminated by the team. It appears the Islanders knew of his desire to play with a European team and were more than willing to help him, as he was highly regarded by the team. In 34 games this season, Sim had one goal and three assists for four points. In 435 career NHL games with the Dallas Stars, Nashville Predators, Los Angeles Kings, Pittsburgh Penguins, Philadelphia Flyers, Florida Panthers, Atlanta Thrashers, and New York Islanders, he has 74 goals and 61 assists for 135 points. Sim was a well-traveled forward in the NHL who developed into a decent checking line winger over the past few years. He should be a decent addition for HC Fribourg-Gotteron and I wish him the best of luck with his new team.

The New York Islanders have announced that they have re-signed left wing Jon Sim to a one-year, two-way contract. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. In 77 games last season with the Islanders, he had 13 goals and nine assists for 22 points. Not a bad depth signing for the Islanders, as Sim brings some veteran experience to the wing. He plays with some grit, can chip in close to 15 goals a year, and is a versatile forward in that he can play on both wings, which makes him an effective third or fourth line player.

With the trade deadline almost 24 hours away, several players have been placed on waivers in an effort for their teams to cut some salary. Most of these players are likely on waivers because they have little or no trade value right now. Satan is probably the most marketable player on this list and could be of some use to a team looking to acquire a top-six forward for the playoffs. However, he has had a poor season and has never really clicked well with linemate Sidney Crosby. Perhaps a change of scenery could do Satan some good. The Ducks are looking to free up cap space for returning injured players, so Morrison was the odd man out. Several teams have expressed interest in Roberts, but he will likely have little impact on a playoff team's success. Gerber has been on waivers many times this season and cleared each time, so expect him to clear waivers once again. Bell could be of some interest to teams looking for a depth defenseman. Voros and Reitz were likely waived to make room for Avery. Voros could be of use to teams seeking a physical forward, while Reitz could be of use to anyone looking for a young, physical defenseman. Sim could be of use to a team seeking a depth forward, while Perrin and Adams have played awful this season and will almost certainly go unclaimed.
