2012 NHL Free Agents

Here is the official list of the NHL players who became free agents on July 1, 2012. The explanations of the different free agent groups can be found at the bottom of the page. Players who are traded or claimed off waivers throughout the course of the season and summer will be added to their new teams when such transactions occur. Players who are signed by new teams, re-signed by their respective teams, or retire will be removed from the free agent list. A player who is removed from this list will be added to the UPDATES section below. Signings are organized by date. The salary cap for the 2012-13 season will be $70.2 million, a $5.9 million increase from the 2011-12 season, which had a salary cap of $64.3 million.  The salary floor (lower limit on what teams must spend) for the 2012-13 season will be $54.2 million.
