Blues Sign Goaltender Ty Conklin to Two-Year Deal

The St. Louis Blues added some goaltending depth on Wednesday by signing goalie Ty Conklin to a two-year contract worth $2.6 million. The deal averages out to $1.3 million per season. Last season with the Detroit Red Wings, Conklin appeared in 40 games, posting a 25-11-2 record, six shutouts, a 2.51 GAA, and a .909 save percentage. The much traveled goaltender has played with the Edmonton Oilers, Columbus Blue Jackets, Buffalo Sabres, Pittsburgh Penguins, and Detroit Red Wings over a six season career. This is a decent move for the Blues, as Conklin has been an outstanding back-up goaltender for the past few seasons. Should Chris Mason struggle at any time during the 2009-10 season or be sidelined for any length of time with an injury, Conklin would easily be able to step into the starter’s role and keep the Blues a competitive team.
