The Buffalo Sabres announced today that they have signed left wing Michael Ryan and center Paul Szczechura to one-year contracts. The financial terms of both deals were not disclosed. In 58 games last season with Springfield and Adirondack of the AHL, Ryan had 26 goals and 18 assists for 44 points. This will be his second stint with the Sabres, where he previously played from 2006 to 2008. In 79 games last season with Norfolk of the AHL, Szczechura had 21 goals and 30 assists for 51 points. These are really just depth signings for the Sabres, as both players will likely spend the majority of next season in the minors.

Flyers Sign Forward Michael Ryan to One-Year Contract
The Philadelphia Flyers announced today that they have signed left wing Michael Ryan to a one-year contract. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. He attended the Flyers' training camp this past September on a tryout basis. In six games this season with Springfield of the AHL, he has one goal and two assists for three points. He last played in the NHL during the 2008-09 season with the Carolina Hurricanes, recording two assists in 18 games. This is really just a depth move for the Flyers, as Ryan was assigned to their AHL affiliate in Adirondack after the signing. He should provide lots of offensive skill to Adirondack throughout the course of the season.

Hurricanes Re-Sign Forwards Dwyer and Ryan to New Deals
The Carolina Hurricanes announced on Wednesday that they have signed right wing Patrick Dwyer to a two-year, two-way contract extension worth $1 million and center Michael Ryan to a one-year, two-way contract extension. Dwyer appeared in 13 games last season with the Hurricanes, his first in the NHL, scoring one goal. Ryan appeared in 18 games last season with the Hurricanes, scoring two assists. These are merely depth signings for Carolina, so one shouldn’t read into them too much. Both players provided adequate offensive depth and skill to the Hurricanes’ AHL affiliate in Albany last season, so they will likely spend most of next season in the AHL unless the Hurricanes get ravaged with injuries.

Hurricanes Sign Michael Ryan to One-Year Contract
The Carolina Hurricanes announced on Friday that they have signed left wing Michael Ryan to a one-year, two-way contract worth $475,000. After signing Ryan to the contract, the Hurricanes assigned him to the AHL affiliate in Albany. Ryan had attended the Nashville Predators' training camp in September on a tryout basis. Last season, Ryan scored four goals and four assists for eight points in 46 games with the Buffalo Sabres. Ryan was likely signed by the Hurricanes to give them depth on offense given their current injury woes. Provided he is recalled at some point during the season, Ryan will give the Hurricanes a speedy, two-way winger for their checking lines.
