Hurricanes Claim Troy Bodie Off Waivers from Ducks

The Carolina Hurricanes announced today that they have claimed right wing Troy Bodie off waivers from the Anaheim Ducks. In nine games so far this season, he has one assist and seven penalty minutes. He was a healthy scratch in Anaheim's last eight games. This is really just a depth move for the Hurricanes, although Bodie does play with a lot of toughness and has good size. However, it remains to be seen if he'll play a regular role with Carolina or end up in the minors.

Ducks Sign Forward Bodie to Two-Year Contract Extension

The Anaheim Ducks announced on Tuesday that they have signed right wing Troy Bodie to a two-year contract extension. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. He would have become a restricted free agent on July 1. Bodie was signed as an unrestricted free agent by the Ducks last season after the Edmonton Oilers opted not to tender him a qualifying offer. He appeared in only four games last season with the Ducks, his first in the NHL, scoring no points. Bodie is a very tough and gritty forward who has the potential to become a 20-goal scorer on the Ducks checking lines. For now though, this is just a depth signing for the Ducks, as they have plenty of grit on their checking lines for next season. However, Bodie could see playing time next season if injuries begin to mount for the Ducks.
