Penguins Sign Defenseman Deryk Engelland to Three-Year Extension

The Pittsburgh Penguins announced today that they have signed defenseman Deryk Engelland to a three-year contract extension worth $1.7 million. The deal averages out to $566,700 per season. He would have been an unrestricted free agent this summer. In 32 games so far this season, he has two goals and three assists for five points and 76 penalty minutes. Not a bad depth signing for the Penguins, as Engelland has established himself as a top-six defenseman with the team. He has good size, plays with lots of grit and toughness, is a fierce fighter, and is a team-first player. He should be an excellent addition to the Penguins' defense for the next three years.
