Flames Sign Mark Giordano to Five-Year Extension
The Calgary Flames announced today that they have signed defenseman Mark Giordano to a five-year contract extension. The deal is for a reported $20 million, which will average out to $4 million per season. He would have been an unrestricted free agent next summer. In 10 games so far this season, Girodano has three assists. In 205 career NHL games, all with the Flames, he has 20 goals and 48 assists for 68 points and 193 penalty minutes. Not a bad signing for the Flames, as Giordano has always been a fairly steady blueliner on the team. He has good puck-moving skills, plenty of offensive talent, and plays with some toughness. With all of his skills, he should help keep the Flames competitive on defense for the duration of the new deal.
