Canadiens Sign Forward Darche, Re-Sign Glumac & Henry
The Montreal Canadiens made some depth signings on Thursday by signing left wing Mathieu Darche to a one-year, two-way contract and re-signing right wing Mike Glumac and defenseman Alex Henry to one-year, two-way contracts. Terms of all three deals were not disclosed. Henry was the only one of the three to appear in an NHL game last season. He appeared in two games with the Canadiens, scoring no points and 10 penalty minutes. In 177 career games with the Canadiens, Edmonton Oilers, Washington Capitals, and Minnesota Wild, he has two goals and nine assists for 11 points and 269 penalty minutes. Glumac appeared in 66 games last season for the Canadiens’ AHL affiliate in Hamilton, scoring 33 goals and 19 assists for 52 points. In 40 career NHL games with the St. Louis Blues, he has seven goals and six assists for 13 points. In 80 games last season with the Buffalo Sabres’ AHL affiliate in Portland, Darche scored 31 goals and 35 assists for 66 points. In 101 career NHL games with the Columbus Blue Jackets, Nashville Predators, San Jose Sharks, and Tampa Bay Lightning, he has eight goals and 16 assists for 24 points. These are nothing more than depth signings for the Canadiens, as all three players will likely not see much NHL action next season, if any at all. If Darche and Glumac were to be recalled, it would likely be on the fourth line as depth wingers. Henry, who is a very physical and gritty blueliner, would likely be a sixth or seventh defenseman if he plays on the Canadiens next season.
