Senators Sign Center St. Pierre to One-Year Deal
The Ottawa Senators announced on Wednesday that they have signed center Martin St. Pierre to a one-year, two-way contract. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. In 14 games last season with the Boston Bruins, St. Pierre scored two goals and two assists for four points. In 35 career games over four seasons with the Bruins and Chicago Blackhawks, he has three goals and five assists for eight points. I have to admit, I was kind of shocked by this signing, as I didn’t think St. Pierre would get signed by any team this summer. This is nothing more than a depth signing for the Senators, as St. Pierre has yet to establish himself as an NHL regular. He’s been very productive at the minor league level, landing a top-six forward role on any AHL team he has played for, but hasn’t been able to duplicate that success in the NHL. If he can play at the same skill level in Ottawa as he has in the AHL, this could be a great signing for the Senators, but I have my doubts that St. Pierre will be an impact player in the NHL.
