NY Islanders Sign Munroe, Reich, & Westgarth to One-Year Deals
The New York Islanders made several depth signings on Thursday afternoon by signing goaltender Scott Munroe, left wing Jeremy Reich, and defenseman Brett Westgarth to one-year contracts. Terms of all three deals were not disclosed. Reich is the only player in the trio who has seen any NHL action. In 56 games last season with the Philadelphia Flyers’ AHL affiliate in Philadelphia, Munroe posted a 31-19-4 record, four shutouts, a 2.46 GAA, and a .926 save percentage. Reich did not play in the NHL last season, having last played an NHL game during the 2007-08 season with the Boston Bruins. In 76 games last season with Boston’s AHL affiliate in Providence, he scored 21 goals and 13 assists for 34 points and 139 penalty minutes. Westgarth appeared in 77 games last season with the San Jose Sharks’ AHL affiliate in Worcester, scoring two goals and seven assists for nine points and 137 penalty minutes. These are nothing but depth signings for the Islanders and the only way these three players are likely to see any NHL action at all next season is if the team becomes ravaged with injuries. Reich is the only player of these three who could make the team out of training camp as an enforcer, but it is an outside chance, as the Islanders have more talented enforcers on their team than Reich.
