NY Rangers Sign Alexander Frolov to One-Year Contract

The New York Rangers added some scoring depth to their lineup on Tuesday by signing left wing Alexander Frolov to a one-year contract worth $3 million. In 81 games last season with the Los Angeles Kings, he had 19 goals and 32 assists for 51 points. He also added one goal and three assists in six playoff games. Not a bad signing for the Rangers, as Frolov will add plenty of offensive skill and two-way play to their lineup despite his knack for inconsistency. The Rangers are now almost $1 million over the salary cap after the Frolov signing and still have to re-sign defenseman Marc Staal, which likely means that defenseman Wade Redden will be sent to the minors unless another team is willing to take his $6.5 million salary off their hands. Given Redden's struggles in recent years, he is likely headed to the minors next season.
