Sharks Sign Goaltender Niittymaki, Re-Sign Forward MacIntyre
The San Jose Sharks announced today that they have signed goaltender Antero Niittymaki to a two-year contract worth $4 million. The deal averages out to $2 million per season. The team also announced that they have re-signed right wing Cam MacIntyre to a two-year contract. Financial terms of his deal were not disclosed. In 49 games last season with the Tampa Bay Lightning, Niittymaki posted a 21-18-5 record, one shutout, a 2.87 GAA, and a .909 save percentage. Not a bad goaltending signing for the Sharks, but he is definitely no Evgeni Nabokov. Niittymaki played solid at times last season, but also struggled at times behind a weak defense in Tampa Bay. With a bit more stable defense in front of him in San Jose, he could see his play improve. As for MacIntyre, this is really just a depth move, as he's probably still a few years away from any NHL action.
